NOVATEK and Rosatom signed an MOU targeting decarbonization of the company’s Stable Gas Condensate Fractionation and Transshipment Complex in the port of Ust-Luga.

Within the framework of the Russian Energy Week international forum, Leonid Mikhelson, Chairman of the Management Board of PAO NOVATEK, and Alexei Likhachev, CEO of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding cooperation in the field of decarbonization

The memorandum signed on 12 October, provides for the acquisition by NOVATEK Group enterprises, in particular the Stable Gas Condensate Fractionation and Transshipment Complex in the port of Ust-Luga, of electricity generated at Rosatom’s wind farms. The purchase of “green” electricity will help reduce the carbon footprint of NOVATEK’s products in accordance with international standards.

The parties intend to cooperate in the development of wind energy in the difficult conditions of the Arctic. The memorandum also provides for an assessment of the possibility of introducing technical solutions from Rosatom in the production of LNG and low-carbon hydrogen, ammonia, generation and storage of electricity.

We pay close attention to reducing the carbon footprint of our products, which contributes to its competitiveness and contributes to solving the problem of preventing global climate change,” said Leonid Mikhelson, Chairman of the Management Board of NOVATEK. – NOVATEK has been successfully cooperating with the state corporation Rosatom for a long time in the field of creating new high-tech types of equipment for the LNG industry. The gained experience of joint work lays the foundation for further development of cooperation in the field of decarbonization, including the implementation of promising projects in the field of green energy and the production of low-carbon products.”
